International Children Day celebration

International Children Day celebration was held in January 24th, 2009 at the Hsa Thwe Lay High School in Thailand Burma border town, Mae Sot. It was organized by Committee for Protection and Promotion of Child Rights (CPPCR), Burmese Migrant Workers Education Committee (BMWEC), SAW, Burmese Migrant Teachers Association (BMTA) and over 2500 students from 33 migrant schools participated.

There are over 60 migrant schools. It's objectives for organizing the celebration is to improve the education of children in the future and to develop mutual relationship between the children from different migrant schools. To improve mental and physical development, the football, cane-ball, volleyball and badminton contest were made before the Children Day.

SAW's High School students also took part in those contests and won the third prize on Htote-Si-Toe (games of catching and running by two groups). In the celebration day, four schools exhibited the handiworks of their students at the celebration. SAW's High school students' exhibition is the stone art paintings and the activities photos of each of SAW's programs.

 


Social Action for Women (SAW) was founded in June 25, 2000 to assist displaced women from Burma who are in crisis situations after having fled to Mae Sod, Thailand. SAW is based in Mae Sod and was established to support women facing difficulties through the provision of shelter, health education, rights awareness, counseling, and vocational training for unskilled women.
