On May 14, SAW conducted a RH (Reproductive Health) Coordinating meeting at the one of SAW’s shelters together with seventeen representatives from local CBOs and NGOs. The meeting’s purpose was to communicate updated information on RH, to exchange successful activities carried out by the groups in the past two months and to discuss plans to more effectively coordinate the provision of reproductive health for migrants. Representatives from Mae Tao Clinic, ARHN, IRC, GHAP, TWU and BBP contributed to the day’s discussions.

In the meeting, SAW’s director gave a presentation on trafficking cases among young people and how it is related to reproductive health. She explained how SAW is the only CBO in Mae Sot providing specialized services to trafficking victims. The presentation showed how victims of trafficking are especially susceptible to abuse and exploitation, making the provision of reproductive health education crucial for this vulnerable group.

In addition, a representative from MHCG (Mental Health Coordinating Group) presented on efficient mental health treatment for trafficking victims. The presentation highlighted the importance of understanding how every victim of trafficking will cope with their ordeal differently and the need for specialized care for trafficked victims.
The RH Coordinating meeting is help once every two months, and provides a forum for many groups to share information to improve the provision of RH to migrants.
