Income Generation
The income generation program was commenced as a vocational work program for displaced women and children who live in the Safe Houses. It also functions as a capacity-building tool and provides dignity through meaningful work. The program trained migrant women how to sew while they are staying temporarily at the Women's Crisis Centre so that after they learn sewing, they are able to find jobs in the factory easily. It also works to improve their mental stability and health condition by working. The products of the income generation program are sold in the local and international communities and the income is used for the needs of the shelters.
A Rotary Club in Australia provided the initial capital for sewing machines in 2009, but there is an additional need for continued funding to cover raw materials, maintenance, and training. The products of the income generation program are sold in local and international communities with the profit used to sustain the shelters.
